Hmong Motherhood: Cultural Influences on Parenting Styles

Hmong cultural beliefs, values, and experiences have an influence on Hmong parenting decisions. However, the ways Hmong mothers support their children and directly teach them to solve problems is sometimes in contradiction with their traditional values and beliefs. In this talk, Professor Herr will discuss a study that was done with first- and second-generation Hmong mothers and children in the United States. She will share and help to explain the findings, which shed light on cultural differences and misunderstandings.

Sponsored by: WSSA, ALANA, and the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department.
