Banvaas (The Exile) - A Musical Play

CHAI (Cultural Heritage Association of India) presents their next theatrical project, essaying the palace intrigue surrounding the ouster of the mythical prince Ram from the kingdom of Ayodhya in northern India, and his (and others’) reaction to the ensuing series of unfortunate events, ostensibly about three millennia ago. As with their previous outing “Shakti”, CHAI is doing this in a musical play format. While the genesis of the idea was in preparations for last Diwali (Diwali celebrates the return of the prince to Ayodhya), and intended to bring forth the lesser known story of what led to Ram’s exile in the first place, the play attempts to pose the question of relevance of the code of conduct prevalent in the Vedic era of Indian history - or at least exemplified by the characters in India’s great epic - to modern society.

CHAI is performing “Banvaas (The Exile)” almost exactly 2 years to the date after “Shakti”, at the same venue (La Crosse’s old community theatre).
