This 3 credit graduate level course is designed to familiarize students with the major approaches and theoretical underpinnings relevant to the teaching of first-year writing at the college level. Over the course of the semester we will survey some of the more prominent topics in composition pedagogy and will consider both theoretical matters (the “why”) and practical applications (the “how”) for the teaching of writing, including teaching the transition from high school to college writing.
